Fat hummers? (1 Viewer)

Hummer-crazy
It's begining to get somewhat chilly here at night as the summer winds down. I haven't seen an adult hummingbird here since September 2nd, and even the hatch year birds that I've been watching all summer have gone. Right now I have three - four Hatch Year Males that showed up a few days ago. One of them has a very distiguishing feature: a feather boa. Near his throat there appears to be large fat sacks under the feathers, puffing them up and creating the look of a scarf.
Do hummingbirds get that big around the throat? I've never seen one like this, but I've only really been watching them for a year.

Looks noraml to me, hummers are very flexible creature and also of course it is migration time and they will put on weight for the journey south, i am feeding well over 50 of them at this time and have noticed an increase in migrant, but yes the get fat before there trip
