we are shortly visiting Les Baux in France hoping to catch a sight of Wallcreepers . Has anyone information that will help and on places to stay.

ernie,
I saw 1-2 Wallcreepers at Les Baux in November so they are there this winter(see http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=47770&highlight=wallcreeper), there are a couple of good trip reports on the internet giving details on the best areas to look (see http://www.birdtours.co.uk/tripreports/france/s-france/s-france-feb-o3.htm and http://www.birdtours.co.uk/tripreports/france/provence/prov-jan-04.htm).

There are plenty of options for accomodation in the nearby area - we stayed in St Remy-de-Provence, about 15 mins drive away from Les Baux. We stayed in the Hotel Gounod (http://www.hotel-gounod.com/), not mega cheap at 99 euros/night for a double, but a great place to stay and highly recommended.

Hope this helps,
Richard

There were at least three birds present at Les Baux 12 - 16 Jan 2006. They seem to be using the cliffs on the otherside of the town though as well as the 'citadel' cliffs. We waited 6 hours to see one on the first day so patience is certainly order of the day!

Cheers

HH
