Birding in Hampton Roads, Virginia (1 Viewer)

Today:

I saw for the second walk in a row a beautiful Great Egret right next to the Lafeyette River. I managed to get very close, but Jessie's jingling tags scared it away.

Both feeders were empty, so I filled them and spread the suet crumbs out for the Thrashers. A female Cardinal and one of three Blue Jay regulars watched me as I filled the tube feeder.

Liz, Wish I had birded back when I lived in Virginia. We don't get to many shore birds around here ;)

Update:

Saw a jay-sized raptor with banded tail. Positive identification seems impossible. Also saw two women birding who told me that hawks come out on cloudy days. Is this so?

Update: I've been seeing a lot of hawks flying around, and two or three ospreys. The hawks were too high in the sky to ID, so I leave them at Accipter Arghgoddammitwhatthehellisthat.
