Sunday August 20, 2006:
The Sunday Bird Walk went to McGregor Marsh, in Nanaimo. Eighteen birders found the following twenty-six species:

Northern Flicker
Pacific-slope Flycatcher
Cassin's Vireo

Northwestern Crow
Common Raven

Black-throated Gray Warbler
Wilson's Warbler

Saturday August 19:
A CASSIN'S VIREO and a BLACK-THROATED WARBLER were seen in a yard along Northwest Bay Road in Nanoose Bay.
A pair of adult CALIFORNIA QUAIL with nine little tennis-ball sized chicks were visiting a yard along Ventura Drive in Nanaimo.

Friday August 18:
A large flock of CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES and several ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS are visiting feeders in the 5600 block of Lost Lake Road in Nanaimo.
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES are coming to feeders in a yard just north of the Little Qualicum River.
A pair of RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES are making frequent visits to feeders in the 1000 block of Forgotten Drive in the San Pareil area of Parksville.
Two TURKEY VULTURES were seen at Neck Point Park in Nanaimo.

Thursday August 17:
Twelve TURKEY VULTURES were seen at the foot of Tweedhope Road in Lantzville--six were soaring on thermals, three were perched on trees and three were in the front yard.

Wednesday August 16:
A BARRED OWL was seen at the campground on Gabriola Island.

Tuesday August 15:
Over eighty BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, twenty CALIFORNIA GULLS, two

BONAPART'S GULLS, four KILLDEER, two BLACK TURNSTONES and two WESTERN SANDPIPERS were seen on a gravel bar in front of the Pebble Beach Townhouse complex at French Creek.
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS, HOUSE FINCHES, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH, PILEATED, DOWNY and HAIRY WOODPECKERS, STELLAR'S JAYS, AMERICAN ROBINS SPOTTED TOWHEES, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES and NORTHERN FLICKERS

are visiting a yard in the 3300 block of Barrington Road in Nanaimo.
A NORTHERN HARRIER was seen near the corner of Lantzville Road and Sabastion Road in Lantzville.
One GREAT HORNED OWL, three PILEATED WOODPECKERS and four HAIRY WOODPECKERS were seen near a cabin on central Mudge Island.

Monday August 14:
A female KINGFISHER was seen feeding a young KINGFISHER at Lost Lake in Nanaimo.

Sunday August 13:
A family of ten CALIFORNIA QUAIL were seen at feeders and then resting in the

garden in the Chartwell area of Qualicum Beach
Over six COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen near the Government Weigh Scales in Parksville.
BLACK SWIFTS were spotted above Ballenas School in Parksville.

Saturday August 12:
A WESTERN SCREECH OWL was seen on central Mudge Island,
Twenty-four BLACK TURNSTONES and a pair of BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were spotted on a gravel bar on the south side of the government wharf in Ladysmith.
Two BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were seen off the point at Deep Bay.

Friday August 11:
Two WOOD DUCKS were seen at Lost Lake in Nanaimo.
A juvenile SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was spotted at the Englishman River Estuary in Parksville.

Thursday August 10:
A CALIFORNIA GULL was seen at Buckley Bay.
Six DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were seen between Denman and Hornby Islands.
Eight KILLDEER, two SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS, a large flock of LEAST SANDPIPERS, four WESTERN SANDPIPERS and eight SANDERLINGS, 200 GLACOUS-WINGED GULLS, CALIFORNIA GULLS, 30 CANADA GEESE, 20 MALLARDS and a fishing BELTED KINGFISHER were seen at low tide on the mud flats at the Englishman River Estuary in Parksville.
Two COMMON LOONS, TWO DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS, three RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS and two BONAPART'S GULLS were seen on the Georgia Strait near the Englishman River Estuary in Parksville.

Monday August 07:
One BLACK SCOTER, four COMMON MERGANSERS, eight BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, two BLACK TURNSTONES and twelve BONAPART'S GULLS were seen at Deep Bay.
