This is the list of native Hawai'i island mountain birds I've seen in 2006: 
     (updated September 28, 2006)

Bird                Photo Quality  Notes

Hawai'i endemics:
Hawai'i 'Amakihi      OK          daily
'Apapane              Good        daily
'Oma'o                Good        daily on E. saddle
I'iwi                 Good        daily on E. saddle
Elepaio               Good        occasional (difficult to see)
Palila                Good        occasional on Western slopes of Mauna Kea
Nene                  Good        occasionally on roadsides at upper elevations
'Akiapola'au          OK          1 in September, 3 in October
Hawaii Creeper        OK          positive ID once in September, but probably seen more 
'Io                   Good        occasional 
Pueo                  no          occasional, S. and W. slope Mauna Kea

Hawai'i natives:
Kolea                 no          daily in Hilo, occasionally on E. saddle

Endemics I haven't seen yet: 
'Akepa
'Alala (only lives in captivity)

Extinct endemics: (gone, but not forgotten!)
'O'u, Hawai'i 'O'o, Hawai'i Mamo, 'Ula-'ai-hawane, Hawai'i 'Akialoa, Kioea, 
Moho, Greater 'Amakihi, Kona Grosbeak, Hopue, Lesser Koa Finch, 
several other undocumented species  (11 plus species for just one island)
