RFI splits NE India trip Apr 2007 (1 Viewer)

Hey there

below is an extensive list of potential splits and possibles etc for our upcoming trip to Arunachal Pradesh in 2007...

It's a minefield.

If anyone has any interesting info on any of these (especially the regional specialities and splits) just post a quick comment please. Or if you have a voice of any of those listed that we need it would be fantastic. The list itself is a fantastic (if rather informal) resource. Any help gratefully received... B :) :bounce:

Tim,
I know someone who is going there before you (March) - with his new recording equipment. I'll show this to him & see...

Tim

I think simply "Baer's Pochard - too late" is probably the sad truth of the matter. To think, I wouldn't pay £6 for a boat trip at Bung Buraphet in the late 1980s to go and see them. Ho hum.

BTW Good luck at Eagle Nest

Alan

Hi Tim,
Not directly related to your question, but I know of at least two people attempting to review the latest taxonomy and throw together a reasonable interim (until the new Howard & Moore comes out) electronic list for the Oriental Region. Will let you know on that.

Hi,

I guess every well identifiable race will be eventually split. So a good idea might be to look at bird book and see which species got two or more pictures. :)

just bumping it up
if anyone can lay hands on an MP3 of Long-billed Wren Babbler we'd be very grateful...

I don't know if you know him personally, but Paul Holt has by far the largest collection of Indian sub-continent bird recordings I know of (all done by himself over many years). He's still semi-resident in Beijing (as far as I know) but if you're mates with him or know someone who is, maybe he'll do you a favour. Just thought I'd mention it. Good luck!

Long-billed W/B

Tim

I have a recording of the song from G.Kerinci if you would like it. I dont have Black breasted Parrotbill if you would like to swap. I am of to Kaziranga and Eaglesnest on Sat.

Cheers

Re Baer's Pochard. . .

I sadly agree that it may be too late (almost no records in last 5 years in HK), but Birdlife seem curiously reluctant to review its status.

Ash

I think its a likely split (see Nigel Collar's paper in Forktail 22) but I guess the song of the Sumatran form would be better then nowt. Have a good trip and don't see tooo many Blue-naped Pittas.

many thanks Ash

very good of you...

owe you a beer or two. Hope you have a fantastic time and find as many of the amazing birds of that region as possible... and that they stay around for us in a couple of weeks. B :)
