RARE BIRD ALERT
SNOW GOOSE
BLUE JAY

Tuesday October 15:

The White juvenile SNOW GOOSE first reported on October 13, 2002 at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo was seen again today in about the same area of the marsh near the Millstone River at the Oak trees.

The BLUE JAY first reported on October 04 is coming to a feeder at 175 McConevy Road on Gabriola Island. The BLUE JAY is chasing the Steller’s Jays away from the peanut feeder, and appears to be quite at home.

AMERICAN DIPPER


An AMERICAN DIPPER was seen along the Millstone River, near the German Cultural Center in Nanaimo.

An ANNA’S HUMMINGBIRD has been seen going to a feeder in the 3700 block of Departure Bay Road in Nanaimo.

Over 90 SURFBIRDS were seen at Neck Point Park in Nanaimo.

Monday October 14:

The following birds were seen at the Nanaimo River Estuary, in south Nanaimo, this morning: two NORTHERN HARRIERS, two PEREGRINE FALCONS, one ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, two MERLIN, one SHORT-EARED OWL, five BUFFLEHEAD, five WESTERN MEADOWLARKS, and two LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS.

Sunday October 13:

Highlights of the Sunday bird walk to Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo were a White juvenile SNOW GOOSE, three SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, two GREEN-WINGED TEAL, a large number of COOTS and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.

Thursday October 10:

A NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL and a flock of RED CROSSBILLS were seen on the Cable Bay Trail in Cedar.
