Sherborne for the day-any suggestions ? (1 Viewer)

I'm in sherborne tomorrow and staying the night in Ruishton (nr Taunton). Rather than sit in the pub (terrible, awful thing to do) can anyone suggest somewhere close by that is worth visiting.
Also, on the way back up north (M5) are there ant places worth stopping-would have to be quite close to motorway because of limited time.
thank you.

If you take the A378 back to Ruishton rather than the A358 then you pass right by Swell Wood RSPB Reserve and West Sedgemoor Reserve. If you want the chance to see Nightinglale plus some good butterflies then what about Thurlebear which is only a couple of miles or so from Ruishton. Thurlebear is a Somerset Wildlife Trust Reserve and whilst it has a Gypsy Site next door it is a permanent site and OK to visit. You have to park outside the wood and walk a couple of hundred yards or so up the track and then take a path to your left, go under the barbed wire strand and you will find yourself in the old quarry. If the weather is good then you will hear the Nightingales. If you want further details send me a PM. Roger
