North America Shore Birds Fall (1 Viewer)

Goatnose

Inspired by IBW
There was a recent post on the Arkansas Bird List that the shore bird nesting in Churchill Manitoba was devastated this year by a late snow storm in June. Can anyone confirm this report? I am concerned also about the Snow Goose nesting, was it devastated also? Please reply.

returned last weekend from a 10 day trip to Manitoba including Churchill. Unfortunately, in Churchill, we found out that there had been an unusually late strong snow storm, in early June, which caught most of the breeding birds on nest or with small fledglings. The locals told us that this years shorebird and waterfowl nesting had been decimated and that, as the weather improved, the birds were departing. Although we found a small number of each species of shorebird when we arrived there on the 13th, they were nearly all gone when we departed under sunny skies on the 16th. Fortunately, with the exception of the Hudsonian Godwit, this area represents a small portion of the breeding range of most North American shorebirds.
