'Bird-friendly' call for gardens (BBC News) (1 Viewer)

About blinking time but ...

What they should be recommending is use of native plants only; as wide a variety as possible. While birds can use sunflower seed the garden / residential area ecosystem as a whole will benefit far more from native plants which support native insects as well as native birds.

And ... this doesn't just apply to private gardens. What about all the parks, gardens and other "unused" areas managed by local authorities, companies and other bodies ? In many cases wildlife friendly management could be cheaper than the current schemes.

Mike.
