The spring birding is picking up here in the Portal, Arizona area. The second week of February we saw our first returning Turkey Vultures and knew from past experience that the hummingbird migration was near. Sure enough, 8 days later the first hummingbirds hit our area. It seems like everything is a little ahead of schedule this year, probably due to a warm winter. Now Olive Warblers are singing in the canyon, preparing for the trip to the higher elevations to nest in the coming weeks. A Townsend's...
