Slaty backed Gull

I was told on Sunday night that there was a rare Slaty backed Gull at Martindale Flats in Victoria. Martindale is great for rare birds but not usually rare gulls(thats what clover Point is for.) Since I didn't have any morning classes I took the hour long bus ride and another 20 minutes to get to the spot it was at. I noticed a bunch of birders i knew that had scopes looking at about 200 gulls. I was told it had flown of 20 minutes before I arrived. So i walked around the area for 3 hours with no luck and I left to take the bus. While on the bus i noticed there was abunch of new gulls that had landed slightly north of where it was earlier spotted. I asked if the bus driver could stop and I left to go check out the new gulls. After five minutes of searching I got to see it. It was a non-breeding adult and I was greatful that got it even though I was 10 minutes late for class. Oddly enough there was no other interesting birds at one of the best birding spots in Victoria. It was my 363rd bird I have ever seen and second lifer of the year!!

Grats :) your life and year list is impressive. I only got 60 so far this year, though Northern Sweden might harbour less different species. Im inspired by your lists, keep up the birding!
