Mt Abrupt, Mt Sturgeon and Piccanniny like sentinels looking lovingly down
On the woods and on the brown landscape on all sides of old Dunkeld Town
The gateway to the Geriwerd ranges that has a history of it's own
Around the Indigenous tribes who once lived here a legend of history has grown,
The home of the grey roo and wallaby of emu and pied and grey currawong
And the home of the grey shrike thrush and magpie birds with such a beautiful song
And across the sandstone cliffs come the echo of the call of the dark brown weerloo
The huge parrots known to so many as the yellow tail black cockatoo,
By the Geriwerd hills tis a known fact that the bones of the first Aussies lay
They were people who truly loved Nature and they lived in a natural way
And on the wooded hills in the moonlight it is said that their ghosts hunt again
In the flesh they may be gone forever but their spirits in Geriwerd remain,
The kookaburras on the high ground call out on the eucalypt trees
And the grass trees look like they are dancing in the freshening evening breeze.
