This blog is intended to follow my progress this year in my pursuit of obtaining some worthwhile bird photographs.
Very much a beginner, with limited funds but almost unlimited time, I want to capture photographs that are more than mere record shots. I am not expecting many rare or even unusual species, but want to do justice to any bird that cares to pose for me.
Wish me luck and good light.

Snow!

Well, we have the first snow of the winter. Not a lot, but enough to bring more birds into the garden. Lots of the usual suspects - Goldfinches and Starlings are the most numerous, followed by Blackbirds, Collared Doves, Wood Pigeons and Greenfinches. it is good to see a few Greenfinches, as I thought they had all succumbed to the virus.
I am also very pleased to see a visitor from last year again. The Pied Wagtail is back again. It would be a challenge to get a photo of him as he is always on the ground, but I might set up a low perch to take his portrait, along with a Chaffinch and a Dunnock. The trouble is, it involves lying down on the ground to set it all up, and it's a bit cold for that!
I am very pleased with the set-up now. It doesn't take me long to set everything as I want it, either with the hide or by remote from the conservatory. Today I'm in the conservatory. I would like another shot of a Long-Tailed Tit today. I have one good one, but mostly I get goldfinches. Oh well, back to the remote.
