My birding habits are controlled by two intractable forces: my young kids and my work travel. So, I mostly blog about fun times birding/exploring with my family and about the cool birding hotspots I visit while travelling the US.
The Brown Peckid

What is a brown peckid? Well, that's a funny story. At least, it’s funny in my house. And proper appreciation probably requires a rudimentary understanding of the Texan language, because “Texas: It’s like a whole other country.” Anyway, one evening, Daughter of Saltwater Cowboy (who is a brilliant 3 yrs old), came running into the room stark naked. So, Wife of Saltwater Cowboy exclaims, "You're naked as a jaybird!" to which she replies, "What's a jaybird? I've never heard of a jaybird! I'm nekkid as a peckid!" From then on, the rare and beautiful peckid has been the mascot of our little family and so was honored as the name of my birding blog.
