Digiscoping Canon Powershot S5 to Fujinon Super 80 Scope

Posted Thursday 6th November 2008 at 17:26 by tirhimjt
I recently purchased a Canon Powershot S5 and would like to attach it to my Fujinon Super 80 spotting scope so that I may digiscope wildlife. I read on earlier blog that others have successfully digiscoped with the Canon Powershot but using different spotting scopes. Neither Lensmate, Canon, nor Fujinon make an adapter that fits my system. Any advise??

a friend of mine made a cute little digiscoping adapter by taking a section of pvc pipe large enough to fit over the telescope's occular. he then used some double-sided tape so that it fitted snuggly on to the occular, glued a flat piece of pvc over the other end to create a lid, and drilled a hole in the lid of the right size so that his camera lens could just fit through. cheap and nasty but it kinda worked. if you are lucky, you might just be able to add a couple of layers of double-sided tape to the inside of the outer section of pvc pipe so that it will hold the lens directly without having to use a lid. might just be a silly idea but then again, if you cant come up with anything better then it may well be a useful attempt at a home creation.

cute camera, btw. I think you will find that flip out screen quite handy, particularly when trying to photograph near to the ground or above your head.

happy birding
