Help Support Vulture Conservation

The more conservationists I meet, the more I am impressed by how many talented, dedicated, and passionate people there are in the world who are devoting much of their lives to protecting a species, a landscape, an ecosystem.

I had the opportunity to visit Dr. Munir Virani in Kenya and observe first hand the amazing work he is doing for raptor conservation. He is participating in TED talks, with a short presentation on "why he loves vultures". It is definitely worth watching....

Lose a Glaucous, gain an Iceland.

Well it turns out the Glaucous Gull I saw on Friday was actually a 1st winter Iceland Gull!
I'm don't know how to feel.
I'm sad that it wasn't a Glaucous Gull but happy it was an Iceland.
Iceland's are rarer though so actually that's better.
Yay!

The Gray Shrike Thrush

As the sky starts to brighten just before daybreak
The whistling of the gray shrike thrush one ought not to mistake
So flute like and familiar and melodious and clear
A beautiful voice in the Spring of the year
In parks and woods of South East Australia his kind one often does see
Birds familiar to many and familiar to me
Lightish brown on back and unders of gray
Birds I do see often though not every day
He sings in the wood on the bushes and...
