Such A Very Old Country

Posted Wednesday 31st March 2010 at 21:47 by Francis Duggan
Far inland from the nearest city where the bare paddocks are flat and wide
The sheep from the mid day sun in the gum shade are sheltering out there in the brown country-side
With few trees they must crowd together for shelter from the hot sun of a Summer's day
A lonely place for one to live in with the nearest town so far away
This is such a very old Country far older than the first human
Far older than the first dinosaur the centuries of time it does span

I Know She Will Be There Forever

Posted Wednesday 31st March 2010 at 21:39 by Francis Duggan
I know she will be there forever the one older than father time
The one who has inspired the artists and inspired the writers to song, story and rhyme
Old in the age of the dinosaurs and that was a long time ago
How old is she that's a good question that is not for humans to know.

Without Our Amazing Earth Mother

Posted Wednesday 31st March 2010 at 21:35 by Francis Duggan
To the most highly educated class one can say they do belong

But the economy does not grow the food that we need to survive
On this thing known as the economy grass and trees and vegetables do not...

Just An Old Tree

Posted Wednesday 31st March 2010 at 21:32 by Francis Duggan
On Nature and life scientists may disagree
But On our attitude to Nature our true selves we should see
Can you not see the beauty and value in a fully grown tree
That has lived in the Parkland for a century
In the cool of the morning in the greeness of Spring
On it's higher branches the blackbird does sing
An arboreal monarch of the higher ground
The oldest and tallest tree for miles around
Yet some people say that it should be cut down...

The Old Creek

Posted Wednesday 31st March 2010 at 21:27 by Francis Duggan
The creek from the high country babbles on down
For to join the big river by the old bush town
On it's long winding journey south-wards to the sea
So old who would even know how old it would be.

It's been flowing long before the birth of the first woman and man
The old creek on it does not have a time span
Through the old brown paddocks 'twill flow forever more
To the river that flows to the great ocean shore.

It has inspired...
