Things Have Changed In Ballydaly

Posted Saturday 8th August 2009 at 01:44 by Francis Duggan
Things have changed in Ballydaly 'tis a changed place he did say
And you well might feel like a stranger where you once were well known today
Many of the old departed amongst the Parish dead they lay
And those that you grew up with now showing their years in gray.

Things have changed in Ballydaly though the old fields look the same
That you knew before you went south the birds by their songs one could name
Their descendants sing the same songs that...

On Hearing Frogs At Night

Posted Saturday 8th August 2009 at 01:40 by Francis Duggan
The moonless sky dotted with bright stars on a cool and damp Winter's night
The breeding frogs in the roadside drain singing at the sound of passing footsteps they grow quiet

Small flocks of silver eyes searching for insects from...

Posted Saturday 8th August 2009 at 01:31 by Francis Duggan

From mid Winter all through the Spring sometimes on his roosting tree
He even sings in the dead of night to proclaim his territory.

Why the magpie often sings at night is beyond me to explain
He wakes and he sings for awhile and he goes to sleep again
A natural thing for him to do since his kind are born to sing
The magpies can be heard all year...
