A Winter's Day In The Hills South East Of Melbourne

Posted Thursday 21st May 2009 at 00:52 by Francis Duggan
The currawongs calling on the wooded hillside and water keeps on dripping from the trees
And it is a day of sleety showers and drizzle and signs of more rain in the freshening breeze
The sun behind heavy cloud cover hidden and the sky is looking overcast and gray
And on the wooded hills south east of Melbourne it is a typical mid Winter's day.

The kookaburras harsh laugh like calls re-echo they have a territory to defend
Their breeding season it is fast...

A June Day In Duhallow

Posted Thursday 21st May 2009 at 00:45 by Francis Duggan
Above the slopes of Clara overlooking Claramore
The little plain brown skylark is carolling as he soar
His territorial melodies a small speck in the sky
And higher ever higher he carols as he fly.

But for the creatures that live wild and free the hardest time of year
The frailer and the older birds the Spring won't live to see
And...

Newbie testing the waters

Posted Wednesday 20th May 2009 at 23:00 by CRJen
I'm CRJen, new to birdforum and a relative newbie to birding and photography. I've always loved birds and now am blessed to live in a beautiful, amazing country where birds of all types abound.

So, I haven't figured out how this forum works. It's a little overwhelming. If anyone checks this blog who responded to my "hello" post, THANKS. I did the intro post and also posted a photo. Thanks for the comments on my Motmot pic. WHEW, the initial things are done. That is once...

Real life just seems to get in the way

I've been rather quiet here the last week, due mostly to having a very quiet birding week and so not much to report. What I have noticed is that real life really does get in the way of a bit of birding. I was looking forward to the weekend free from the girlfriend (!) and getting out somewhere like Wimbledon Common or Richmond Park with the old bins, only to have it scuppered by demanding friends and a personal weakness for catching up on (if I'm honest) much-needed sleep and socialising! I really...
