In June In Old Liscreagh

Posted Wednesday 20th May 2009 at 01:01 by Francis Duggan
In a lush damp meadow in Liscreagh
In a rushy clump the brown hare lay
From predators well hid away
He doze and sleep for most of the day.

And at twilight he ventures out
For to graze in the pasture fields about
And under the starry cloak of night
He eats his fill in peace and quiet.

It's early summer in Liscreagh
And badger and her cubs in the twilight gray
Through fields and meadows amble slow
And dig...

Elegant Trogons are back and starting to nest on the South Fork of Cave Creek near Portal, Arizona. These sometimes elusive birds were very apparent this morning and we had very nice viewing on two individuals. While we do not publicize nest locations, good areas for viewing foraging adults include an area about 500 feet north of the bridge on the South Fork Road and the general area of the first creek crossing on the South Fork Hiking Trail. More than half the populations of waders in Europe, West Asia and Africa are declining at an accelerating rate. There is a need for better protection of the key wetlands along their flyways, especially in Africa and the Middle East. This is the conclusion of the Wetlands International’s Wader Atlas, the first comprehensive overview of key site networks for waders in Europe, West-Asia and Africa, launched in London today.

House Wren

Posted Tuesday 19th May 2009 at 12:43 by Paulo Boute
Hello!

There is a House Wren at my yard.
Today, seems to be a very inspiring day for it! It has been singing all day long!!!
I love it!
This is a bird that has been following me all my life...At my childhood at the State of Paraná & many other places I lived....it's call is a bit different from the one in North America and Europe.
But, not less melodious.

Yours,

Paulo.

To A Silvereye

Posted Tuesday 19th May 2009 at 01:36 by Francis Duggan
I see you almost every day you fly from tree to tree
And I envy you your happiness for you are wholly free
You tiny insect eating bird in olive fawn and gray
And I feel glad so very glad to see you every day.

No boss to order you around to tell you what to do
Wish you were me dear tiny bird and wish that I were you
For you have freedom in your wings the freedom of the sky
And I envy you your happiness dear tiny silvereye.

On...
