Oregon Junco

Posted Saturday 20th October 2012 at 18:04 by lastdefense
I saw another Junco today - this time a different subspecies. Yesterday was a Dark-Eyed Pink-Sided Junco and according to my research today was an Oregon Junco

Am I having too much fun with this?

Woot!

Posted Friday 19th October 2012 at 18:56 by lastdefense
Super excited to have "discovered" a new type of bird today. With the help of the forum I learned that who I saw was a dark-eyed, pink sided Junco. Two of them! My yard was just buzzing this morning - I had some regulars - Mourning Doves and Sparrows - but also a House Finch, a couple of Ravens and of course the Juncos :)

broadening Horizons- Shorewatching for beginners

Posted Monday 1st October 2012 at 22:46 by Green Sandpiper
I'm a farmboy. I'm a country bumpkin. I hate the city, and need to be surrounded by greenery and trees. I grew up, in those halcyon days of hot summers and too many housesparrows to count, surrounded by farmland and woodland, where housing booms and 125% mortgages were unheard of. Of course, it probably wasn't like that, but to a 9 year old, armed with his first bird book and binoculars, it seems that way 30 years later.

This love affair with the green and brown of my childhood...
