Purple heron flying over Jarama river at Paracuellos. (1 Viewer)

IMG_7327b.jpg
Since mid-April I walked some days around Jarama river at Paracuellos, Madrid. The river was full of common pochards. Rabbits abounded on the other side of the river. They were quieted because the course of the river gave security to them.
The river has many invasive red ears florida turtles, however It is very difficult to see native turtle species. In this group there were nine. It's hard to compete for habitat and food with an invasive species that is continuously introduced into the river every time the turtles become too big to keep at home or the kids are tired of them. An awareness campaign is necessary about this item.
The River remains less water over the years and sand of its banks is almost never flooded. This magpie strolled on the sand.
A black kite plowed the high sky. Looking for a prey in thewaste ground on the left bank of the river
A male blackcap was hiding in the vegetation. I start to see again this species after a long time without seeing her. The female was photographed a little better
I saw of the year the first bee-eater of the year. We were in April 14.
This year I'm not seeing too many greenfinches

I came back to this place in the last days of May. Some black starlings in the poplars. A shrike looked for prey on the top of a branch.I see always the ubiquitous wood pigeons

I photographed what I supposed to be a distant grey heron. Only when I saw the pictures at home I realized it was a purple heron
I am glad because it is a species very elusive for me. And without haste, slowly he flyed away.
It flyed out near the treatment plant in Valdebebas
I saw this day a black-crowned nigth heron twice. And perhaps, and only perhaps a bittern.
