Bittern at Rutland Water NR (1 Viewer)

I sat in the Shoveler hide at Lagoon 3 for over two hours on Thursday 31st January. Weather was cold and very windy, although there were sunny spells. Not one single other person entered the hide in that time!

How pleased was I when a Bittern took off from the reeds at far side of the lagoon and flew straight towards the hide! Had a great view in the Zeiss Conquest as the bird past 10ft to the right of the hide. It more or less hovered for about 20 seconds before dropping into the reeds.

Up to now I my only view has been a brief glimpse at distance of a bird in the reeds.
