Lincolnshire was the coldest place in the U.K. last night - minus sixteen degrees! There had been a freezing fog in the night before it cleared and it left everything covered in a white hoar frost. It looked like a winter wonderland when I woke up, so I set the camera up with the remote and put the heater on in the conservatory. O.K. I was being a bit of a wimp, but there was no way I was going to sit out in the hide in weather still below freezing. I was pleased with the results, especially as I got one or two good shots of a male Chaffinch on a branch. Usually, they spend their time on the floor, but the extreme cold has meant they are visiting the feeder next to the perch I was focused on.
I hope to find time tomorrow to put one or two shots up onto the gallery. I realise that they will all look similar, but I am not hiding the fact that I am using an outdoor studio. Some of the shots look as if it snowing. It was actually the frost falling off the tree above whenever a bird landed in it.
I am now working on a new idea for backgrounds. If I take a photo of a suitable background, nicely out of focus, then have it printed out on plain A2 paper, then I can produce a whole series of appropriate backgrounds. For instance, today would have been better with a snowy background instead of green. Watch this space!
