Colin's Bird Diary - 26th October 2007 (1 Viewer)

Ashleworth Ham Nature Reserve on a cloudy, calm and overcast day.

There was a big passage of Fieldfare this morning with a few Redwings mixed in with the flocks. A smaller number of Chaffinchs were also passing through. After a bit of a search, I found the Great Grey Shrike again, present for its 10th day. Once again there seemed to be Long-tailed Tit flocks roaming everywhere. One such group was in excess of 20 individuals. On a general note, this autumn appears to have been one of the best, here in the west country at least, for visible migration with large flocks of Fieldfare, Chaffinch, Meadow Pipit on different days.

Other notes for the day include 28 Teal on the scrape, 2 Shoveler, the Little Grebe again and a female Stonechat near Colways Farm.

In the afternoon, I made a short visit to Cannop Ponds in the Forest of Dean and noted 15 Mallard and 15 Mandarin Duck with 6 Tufties.
