A fine, bright and mild day. I went to Ashleworth Ham Nature Reserve to see if I could find the two Great Grey Shrikes which had been reported yesterday as being in the same location. It seems that another had joined the individual that I had found just over two weeks ago.
I spent an hour or so searching but could not find any. However, a Water Pipit had been found on view from the hide which was a pleasant surprise when I returned from my search.
The Little Grebe was still present with 6 Teal and a Shoveler on the scrape. 2 Peregrines were present on seperate pylons with a Buzzard perched in a tree nearby. A female Stonechat was on Hasfield Ham and 7 Mute Swans were still there. The Starling flock wheeling around the Ham numbered at least 72 and 10 Pied Wagtails were near Colways Farm. 2 Snipe were the last birds logged when I left just after lunch on the first day of the survey work which will count towards the new Bird Atlas.
