Tree weeks ago I blogged black kites, but Obviusly I did not see only black kites this days. The pond of Soto de las Juntas en Rivas, en Madrid is always full of birds and sometimes brings a surprise. This time it was red-crested ducks.
Upon arrival I saw this goldfinch between the branches. Since the end of winter goldfinches are much more active and singing. A Tree sparrow was less elusive than the goldfinches.
A stork was looking for food on a meadow.
And as always in this place, dozens storks were flying.Much less numerous, but also present are grey herons.
Upon reaching the pond I saw some cresed grebe, although this year they has been less abundant than in previous ones.
Conversely, there are a lot of european pochards this year.
In the second sighting hut I began to look at other areas of the lagoon. I still see great crested grebes and more pochards. A couple of black necked grebes, and a third one trying to join to the party although he was soon expelled.
There was quite a lot of little grebes too and the ubiquitous coots.
Half a dozen turtles sunning and at the right: one little grebe.
When another bird watcher told me of the presence of four red-crested ducks.
It is the first time that I see this species. We could see the difference in plumage of the male and the female.
