The calm before the storm

Posted Monday 10th March 2008 at 21:12 by Stephen Dunstan
It was supposed to be a raging storm at lunchtime, and yet it was actually calm enough to pick out a porpoise arking through the waves. Also had the first Gannet of the year and a Kestrel north over the sea that may have been on passage.

Grebes galore

Posted Tuesday 1st January 2008 at 19:50 by Stephen Dunstan
Haven't posted for a while as I have been doing a lot of Atlas work which has been included in the 'Atlas listing' thread.

Today there were at least 47 Great Crested Grebes off Starr Gate in the one hour of birding I managed, a very good count for the site.

Welcome porpoises

Posted Wednesday 28th November 2007 at 17:54 by Stephen Dunstan
I haven't seen any porpoises from Starr Gate for months, and was slightly put out to miss three earlier this week. Today put that right with at least two seen close in. A Grey Wagtail was also welcome.

Good diver passage

Posted Sunday 25th November 2007 at 19:07 by Stephen Dunstan
A late update, but a Friday seawatch before work was enlivened by an excellent count of 90 Red-throated Divers north. The working day is always easier to face after some good birding.

Gannet

Posted Wednesday 21st November 2007 at 20:51 by Stephen Dunstan
Most of my recent birding has featured in the 'Atlas listing' thread.

Today at Starr Gate at lunchtime an adult Gannet was welcome. Other odds and ends included auks, divers and grebes.
