So yesterday I went to Gothenburg to find some winter birds. First I went to a place where warm water flows in the winter. It is known to host Water Rails so I hoped to see one. Not long after I arrived I saw motion in the vegetation, and there it was! And just after that, another one came along. Here is a poor picture of it, was very hard to photograph.
The day before I arrived a Jack Snipe had been reported, so I hoped to see one. And just when I had finished my thought, it flew up, circled around me and then vanished over the water. Both birds are lifers for me!
Then I drove to a another location, a house where both Lesser Whitethroat and Dunnock had been reported for weeks. Once I arrived at the location, the guy who lived there came out for a chat and just then both birds decided to show up at the feeder. Must be quite rare with LWTs in Sweden, at this time, in this cold? The Dunnock was a lifer for me, hard to see in my part of Sweden usually, despite being kinda numerous. Here is the LWT.
Then I visited the birdfeeding at Botaniska Trädgården in Central Gothenburg. It was full of Robins, Bramblings, Blue tits, Blackbirds and a few Marsh Tits
A short visit at the famous location Stora Amundö gave me some nice pictures of House Sparrows
and finally I went to look at the Kingfishers and the Ring-Necked Duck at Säveåns Mynning but I could not take any decent pictures there. Next time I´l have my digiscoping gear with me. All pictures here were shot with my Panasonic FZ-18.
