A Family Moment with Hawks on Vancouver Island (1 Viewer)

Yesterday I went for a walk in a nearby park. The sun was hot but the breeze was just strong enough to keep me cool.

I love hiking by myself. After a long day, the solitude helps me keep everything in perspective.

Because I was not getting too tired or wet with perspiration, I decided to make it to the top of an not-so-used trail to the lake lookout.

At the top, I was greeted with a spectacular display from a family of hawks. And I was looking down on them!

One parent was soaring on the breeze and showing off his flying skills while the other parent & babies were cheeping and chirping wildly in the tree-top nest. The babies were too young to fly and were cheering him on with excitement.

The mother then took to the air and together they performed an amazing dance on the wind gusts, side by side in tandem.

The chicks were so pleased & happy that they started singing aloud, their adolescent squawks filling the valley as they jumped up & down in the nest. They were looking forward for the day they were to take flight!

What an amazing sight!
