Garden Surprises (1 Viewer)

I looked out of the window yesterday and saw, to my surprise and delight, that there were three Bullfinches in my garden. They do not visit during the summer, so when I see them at this time of year, I always enjoy it. And then things got even better. I looked out the window a few minutes later and saw a Great Spotted Woodpecker on the suet feeder! Like the Bullfinches, this was the first sighting in the garden for months, but I only ever see Woodpeckers a couple of times a year. To make it even more special, this was a female; all the ones I have seen in the garden before were males. It fed very enthusiastically for several minutes until it was scared away by the sudden arrival of a Magpie. It just goes to show that the garden can always show something really special, even when you least expect it!
