Magellanic Plover project underway.

Posted Friday 30th January 2015 at 17:31 by Rick and Elis
We have received news from Ricardo Matus who is leading the Wader Quest team in Punta Arenas to confirm that the Wader Quest Magellanic Plover ringing project is under way.

Our project team comprising Ricardo along with his wife Olivia Blank and Fernando Díaz were at Los Palos and found around 18 Magellanic Plovers including at least three juveniles. They set a couple of the new nets that we had provided and captured a total of four birds including two fairly large juveniles. ...

Mystery wader photo.

Posted Tuesday 20th January 2015 at 21:23 by Rick and Elis
Recently on our facebook page we posted a photo of a bird feeding with half of its head and all of its bill underwater which we have reproduced here. Bills are very important in identifying waders and so making this bird's ID a little tricky. If you didn't see that post have a guess what this bird is before scrolling down.

Posted Wednesday 31st December 2014 at 00:15 by Rick and Elis
Chris Hassell who is based in Broome in Western Australia reports that a number of Great Knots and Bar-tailed Godwits have had satellite transmitters attached to them to track their migration movements in the coming year for the EAAF satellite transmitter project being carried out by him, Ginny Chan, Lee Tibbitts and Theunis Piersma.

Sufficient numbers of Great Knot were caught on 22/10/2014 for the project's needs...http://www.waderquest.org/2014/12/gr...wits-with.html

Anniversary World Watch results

Posted Monday 8th December 2014 at 13:05 by Rick and Elis
The country with the highest list (and highest individual list) was from Peter Ericsson in Thailand with 33 species, and he still had some species that he could potentially have connected with if he had not been working that day. Additional species such as Greater Painted-Snipe, Malaysian Plover, White-faced Plover are all generally available as well as the potential for pratincoles and jacanas from that country all of which just goes to show what a great wader destination Thailand is.http://www.waderquest.org/2014/12/an...h-results.html

Posted Wednesday 26th November 2014 at 17:36 by Rick and Elis
Finally we are in the run up to the World Watch weekend and we hope that we will be joined by many people across the planet in order that we can see as many waders/shorebirds as possible between us in one weekend.
By participating you will be showing your solidarity with other birders around the world who care about what is happening to our wader populations and by doing so you can;
