RF Bluetail, Flamboro

Posted Tuesday 23rd October 2007 at 22:03 by Hotspur
Borrowed the wifes car in order to see the Bluetail. Arrived and there were 50 or so 'numpties' sat waiting for it to appear after it had flown along the hedge. After 5 mins with them i decided to investigate further up. The bird flew from the hedge not 100m further South along the hedge flying toward me, turned on its heel and flew toward Old fall plantation. I arrived there telling the birders that were scattered who then relocated it. It showed repeatedly but briefly for the next 10 mins before...

Spurn and no gearbox!

Posted Wednesday 10th October 2007 at 19:38 by Hotspur
Went to Spurn complex again on monday - saw a YB Warbler in the Blue Bell (my umpteenth this month!) but no Blyth's Reed Warbler. A Barred Warbler showing to 10 feet in the canal scrape car park which was my second of the year but best views and a near subliminal Dusky Warbler in Easington which was a lifer. Some idiot kept claiming it was a Blackcap because there were 3 above it in the hedge. Use your brain! Anyhow got several Id'able views and then i cleared off. Unfortunatly my gear box gave...

I get there by 4.15 but i dipped horrendously, everyone else saw it but I kept being in the wrong place at the wrong time or looking the wrong way (Dan Pointon was directing everyone on 2 the bird- i couldnt see the bird for the trees!). Isabelline & North Cave

Posted Tuesday 2nd October 2007 at 20:14 by Hotspur
Had a good look at the Isabelline Shrike yesterday in glorious sun at Buckton mid-afternoon. The bird showed beautifully, energetically catching flies and bees whilst i was there. It was a very concolorous bird with a Buff back and pale underside. It also had a very distinct mask compared to pictures of other juvs i have seen. Phoenocuroides?

Dropped in at North Cave this morning. Only waders were 3 ruff but i still tried to string the small one as a Pec Sand. Good numbers of Pochard...

Spurn!

Posted Friday 28th September 2007 at 20:11 by Hotspur
Saw the weather systems headed our way and cant go out at weekend so made sure i was out today! Rocked up at 9ish to immediately get rubbish views of the Greenish Warbler plus Willow Warbler, Redstart & Goldcrest everywhere. Dipped the Yellow-browed Warbler that had been seen earlier. All of a sudden Little Bunting comes over the CB- ran from the Crown and Anchor car park to Beacon Lane but to no avail it had already flown. Pretty quickly after a Great Grey Shrike was seen in the triangle but...
