is it a plane, is it superman - no it's superhoopoe!!! Here's one I caught in mid flight.
It never ceases to amaze me how certain elements of nature are just so resilient and hardy, that they seem able to hang on in what looks like the most unrewarding of environments.

Today it was a trip to another interesting Chengdu spot – the famous Panda research center. This place is located within parkland about 10km to the north of the city. Here you’ll find a lot of nice woodland, scrubby thicket and large areas of thick propagated Bamboo (a jungle of Panda fodder). Here’s an interesting notice selling Bird watching to the masses - Chinese style. I think it starts quite well – the sentiment is there – but doesn’t it rather taper off at the end. Please read and then try to translate into English!!!! The best translation gets a prize. Funniest translations are of course those that stand the greatest chance of winning this one.

The last week has been pretty chilly for Chengdu standards – nothing below zero – but we’ve even seen snow – although it never sticks.

A DAY ON THE RIVER
Today’s Chengdu birding took place about 40km’s outside the city proper –in fact situated “next-door” to a very popular tourist destination – the San Xin Dui archaeological site and museum. But our watching was on the bordering river – the promisingly named Ya Ze He – Duck river.
