Having recently rediscovered the joys of birding for the first time since I was a wee lad, this is my record of getting to grips with re-familiarising myself with the world of birds.

A day off work last week, so I took a trip to Pulborough and Arundel.
Arrived early at Pulborough and enjoyed seeing no one and having the place to myself for a couple of hours. Saw more bunny rabbits than I thought possible, some rather tame (or stupid) and didn't move till I got within just a few feet of them.
About 9.30 I made for the hide overlooking the north fields as I knew a huge shower was heading my way (thanks to my early warning system, a.k.a. my other...

Saturday was without a doubt my best day's birding ever, both in terms of numbers of species seen and in what I saw. In the one day I saw as many birds as I usually see in an average month, and in the course of the day I got three new lifers, nine new year list ticks, and five new ticks for my Sussex life list - all in all a very productive day.

With the bad weather and then a nice bout of gastro-enteritis knocking me out of action for over a week, I had not been out birding since the 2nd of January. My poor bins were starting to gather a layer of dust and were crying for some attention.
Well now that my stomach had finally started to behave itseld again (is that too much information!?), I had a fantastic day on Saturday in West Sussex.
Dropping the lass off for work in Pagham early in the morning, I quickly...

I finished work for 2009 on 23rd December and found myself on a very early train down to the Sussex coast on Christmas Eve, avoiding the mad rush out of the Big Smoke. And even on the train I managed to spot a peregrine flying over Battersea Park station not far from the park.
On getting down to Littlehampton, birding had to be put on hold for a few days, but I did see my first ever Barn Owl on Christmas Day; whilst driving back from my sister's in the evening after expanding my...
