Colin's Bird Diary - 28th November 2007

Took a short walk to check to see if the Great Grey Shrike was still at Farmers Green, near Cannop Ponds in the Forest of Dean. It was and I was able to find it very easily and again, there was a Hawfinch in the near area feeding on holly berries. A quality few minutes.

Colin's Bird Diary - 21st November 2007

I walked to Farmers Green, near Cannop Ponds in the Forest of Dean to try to find the Great Grey Shrike which appears to have returned to the same area where one was seen frequently this spring. It did not take me long to find the bird in the clear fell area and as a bonus, it was joined by 4 Hawfinches for a short time.

Colin's Bird Diary - 20th November 2007

Ashleworth Ham Nature Reserve on a day with threatening rain and damp and overcast conditions.

Although there were less winter thrushes around, Fieldfare, Mistle Thrush and Redwing were still in evidence but not in the numbers that they have been over the past 3 or 4 weeks. A flock of 8 Collared Doves was unusual as they flew past and somewhere in the region of 80 Stock Doves mixed with...

Ashleworth Ham Nature Reserve on a day of sunny periods after a very cold start.

This was a short visit to put some boards into the sluice ready for the winter to trap some water on the reserve for the winter wildfowl.

After that we, I spent a short time in the hide and found the Water Pipits again which flew into the area directly in front of the hide near the main water. 5 birds appeared suddenly, one was a Meadow Pipit and 3 were Water Pipits, but the 4th bird...

Colin's Bird Diary - 13th November 2007

A short visit to Ashleworth Ham Nature Reserve on an overcast, breezy day with some showers.

A bit of a search and I finally found the Great Grey Shrike which has now been present for 28 days. The mixed flocks of Starlings, Redwings and Fieldfare are still large but have thinned out a little over the past few days. Meadow Pipits and Reed Buntings were on Hasfield Ham (next door) and a nice sight was a fly over Little Egret which landed in a hedge for a few moments before continuing...
