Went out to Patrington Haven in East Yorkshire, yesterday (got there for 5.30am) and saw this barn owl perched from about 400m away, I thought I would try to walk closer to get a better shot, but a car came and flushed it.I watched it hunting in a field nearby and thought...'I wonder if it will come back', so I drove up to the post parked the car and set up my scope slightly back from the end of the car using it as a bit of a hide.
After about ten minutes, it flew back on to its perch and kept a wary eye on me for a couple of minutes before flying off again.
It appears that it had a spike stuck just below its left eye, it didn't seem that bothered.
Brilliant to get this close to something that has (for me) always been very wary in the past.
