Great Gray Owl (Strix nebulosa)

Made the trip (about 4 hours) up to Massena, NY near the Canadian border to see these beautiful owls. It seems to be an eruptive year for them as they are very seldom seen this far south in the east. They live mainly in the very north woods of Canada. The last time I remember there being any in the east was in 2005 when a fairly large number of them came down as far as Montreal Canada. Was a long day but well worth the 8 hours of driving up and back and the 7 hours spent there looking for and photographing them. There were 2 owls in a state park up there.

Great detail, bird, and setting, Ken; I'd guess not as easy to spot as some might think from the photo
