Green Lizard with ticks

Green Lizard with ticks (Lacerta viridis or L. trilineata)

This big Green Lizard (Lacerta viridis or L. trilineata) was infested with ticks (the grey "dots" behind his front leg). I tried to catch him to remove the ticks, but he managed to get away deeper inside the bush and I lost him. I don't know if he survived the ticks, he probably did, because he looked fat and healthy.
Habitat
meadows, rock formations, meadows with bushes...
Location
Vugrovec, near Zagreb, Croatia
Date taken
30.05.2004.
Scientific name
Lacerta viridis or L. trilineata
Equipment used
Olympus C740UZ
Hi!

The ticks usually is not the problem for lizards. They use it only as the transitional "food".
The species near Zagreb is L. viridis.

Interesting stuff about the ticks, thanks for the information and the story of this lizard. I hope he survived, he is beautiful and the picture so clear and bright... You still have never dissapointed me ;) !

L. viridis and L. trilineata. I found both species, but it is difficult to tell them appart. I think I also have hybrids between the two there, because that is possible. I have a table by which to tell them appart, but it works only in some cases, not all, and I didn't know that when the picture was taken, so I don't know for this one.

The ticks are the main reason why so many young snakes and lizards don't make it to adulthud (humans are the second). I found "Greenies" (young and adults) with about 40-50 ticks per lizard and they looked emaciated, dehydrated and had a "sick" color. I remove the ticks if I can catch the "Greenie".
