Male Cardinal feeding his young Cardinal

This male Cardinal has for the last 2 days been feeding his youngster in our area. Little does Pops know that when he is not present the youngster feeds himself !! As soon as his father shows up he begs to be fed !
He over powered the youngster not allowing him to show his head while feeding him or her ! Allot of entertainment for sure. Olympus E Volt 500 camera using the 40-150mm digital lens. Automatic setting about 15 feet from the birds.

LOL Tim think you've got in a bit of a date muddle... it ain't June yet??

I was going to ask if your Cardinals had already started breeding this year, which is why I checked the date. So was it June 2015? In which case a youngster would be possible.

If you took it yesterday, I'd have thought it more likely to be a pair, with the male feeding her as part of the pair bonding ritual.

Whatever - you've a lovely picture. Very well done lad.

We had a very warm winter so, nesting going on here with many. However i will explore your idea on the bonding is interesting thanks !
