Two firsts in one day! She was flying ahead of our car then perched in the hedge. I took this shot through the windscreen, hence poor picture quality.
(must clean it more often!)

A little tickle with a photo editor would get rid of that haze. No matter though, it's still a great capture of an awesome bird! Well done!

Nice capture - thanks for sharing.

Short wings, long tail and yellow eye confirm this to be a Sparrowhawk, not a Merlin. The buff fringes on the upper wing-coverts indicate that it is a juvenile.

Patrolling roadside hedges is a common hunting strategy used by Sparrowhawks.
