Migrant Monarch (Danaus plexippus)

This faded, weather worn male monarch already has had around 3000 miles pass under its wings since last fall. The last and first of seasonal generations. In this location it would be the forth generation to morph from chrysalis to butterfly sometime last fall. Starting its journey as soon as its capable. It travels and overwinters in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Mexico.(a united nations world heritage site) In spring, when It arrives at the area of origin it will mate and complete one of natures most spectacular cyclic events.

Thanks for looking everyone. Wish that it could been caught in true butterfly fashion. Have to encounter early in morning at this stage of movement, as they warm in sun before departure. Lactic acid builds up quick, gives that lethargic look.
