Monarch caterpillar (Dananus plexippus)

Instar monarch caterpillar. Was about 48 hours
from chrysalis and an unfolding miracle.
Returnedand tried to find and photo, wasnt to be.Appears to be an non-viable egg in fore ground(brown sphere) Taken on invertered leaf of milkweed,a plant which until chrysalis stage was its entire world.
Have to wonder and hope that it made it to a few acres of fir trees in mexico.
Hopefully fattening for a return journey of about
900 miles here.Guess we're at about half way point in time, have to wonder.

Great macro Bill, these Butterflies are amazing. Have seen off of a Ferry going from NJ to Delaware, 17 miles with no place to rest, imagine the food reserves it needs to do that feat.
