There's a real greeting ritual any time the returning partner comes to the nest bearing gifts or food. It doesn't seem to matter if the nest looks finished or is serving its purpose, the further bringing of sticks seems an integral part of Heron marital bliss and the sitting Heron never seems to tire of rearranging the sticks in some small way.
