red-bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus)

I primarily take pictures of wading birds and shore birds. The egrets, the herons, the terns, etc. One day I stopped on a dirt road and was focusing my camera on the the interesting textures of a dead tree's bark, when suddenly I noticed this bird in my viewfinder. It had been on the other side of the tree, when I arrived. It was feeding a grub to its youngsters inside the tree.
