Wondereful work documenting this odonate lifecycle process Cheryl. I enjoyed reading and learning from it.. thanks for calling it to my attn. No, I don't know if this is "normal" behavior; I've never heard of it... but will ask one of my expert friends when I get the chance. Thanks. -Steve
 
Great work Cheryl, I've just witnessed Ebony Jewelwing do the same thing, almost! The female deposited eggs while remaing on the surface, male above guarding. I was impressed with the chase flights of males vying for female. They look so fragile, yet it was hard to follow their flight path. Great stuff!
