Certainly is an interesting looking mix Rob. Why not post it in bird id and let joern have a go at it. If anyone knows he will. Lovely photo btw :)
 
It was a devil of a job to get a decent focus on it. This was when it came closer to shore. Yes it is a diver. The group were trying to lose it but it kept reattaching itself to a female tuffy.

I am glad it's not just me struggling to id it.
 
Interesting ...I will leave the Id to others....note the wing flashes...may be more than two breeds here?
