Immature Gannets flying alongside cruise ship (Sula bassana)

On our cruise, heading eastward from the Hebrides, we were accompanied by flocks of adult and immature Gannets.
The adults are statuesque, with a beautiful yellow head. Their flight and diving prowess thrilled everyone watching.
The immature Gannets were surprisingly dark, with lighter speckles.. They gradually gain adult plumage over three-four years.
