Bird-of-the-day #8 at MamboViewPoint
The day started early as the weather was pretty nice. I went down the escarpment to the west, in search of Striped Pipit I'd like to show you. My attention was attracted by the contact calls of some Hildebrandt's Francolins, a species so shy that I didn't dared even just dream to photograph one today. I got close, and the calls showed that the birds did not see me. I stopped in front of a beautiful native tree, not for the francolin, but for insectivorous that live there: white-eyes, flycatchers, apaIises and so on. I did not want to waste my time for the too difficult francolins, but wanted to stick around... you never know! While I was watching a flycatcher, I heard the calls closer. Only one place was suitable for a possible photo of a francolin: a small area recently Mamboopened by a farmer, overhung by a rock. I placed my camera toward the area. After less than three minutes... (following and more photos here: http://www.valeryschollaert.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1142&Itemid=387 )

Very well done Valry. A great picture and it's a bird we don't see very often in here.
